[HERBERT SPENCER]
First
of all who is Herbert Spencer? What is the cause of his popularity? What was his contributions in the world of philosophy? Now lets find it out!
Herbert Spencer was born in April 27, 1820 in Derby, Derbyshire, England, and Died December 8, 1903, at Brighton, Sussex. He is an English sociologist and philosopher, The notable works of Spencer was the following: “The proper sphere of government”, “The synthetic philosophy”, “The principles of psychology”, “The man versus state”, “Descriptive sociology”, “The principles of sociology”, “First principles”, and the “Social statics”. His Philosophy was Synthetic philosophy; it contains principles of biology, psychology, morality, and sociology. He was known for his doctrine of social Darwinism. Spencer saw philosophy as a synthesis of the fundamental principles of the special sciences; He thought of unification in terms of development, His whole scheme was in fact suggested to him by the evolution of biological species.
Spencer thought that evolution was caused by
the inheritance of acquired characteristics, Natural selection was one of the
causes of biological evolution, natural selection refers to the change of the
anatomy of one species to cope up with the new environment they are into or
living in, Spencer Points out in His philosophy was the evolution of every
species varied upon the environment, so if the environment of one species
changes, that species will change too to live accordingly to the new
environment they’re into. In his first principle he argued that there is a
fundamental law of matter, which he called law of persistence of force from
which it follows that nothing homogenous can remain as such if it is acted
upon, because any external force must affect some part of it differently from
other parts and cause difference and variety to arise, which means that no
certain species will evolve if there is no external force or external changes
in the environment, however they can survive by using the natural selection
wherein they need to adjust or manifest something to live accordingly to the
certain change of environment in a certain habitat, these kind of evolution was
manifested by our early ancestors the homo sapiens by their own consciousness
or willingness to survive in the world they’re living, the “survival of the
fittest” will now come, on this time the battle of the species began wherein
they need to kill to have food and to live, and still happening until now.
Spencer published his idea of evolution of
biological species before the views of Charles Darwin and the British
naturalist Alfred Russel Wallace was known, Spencer accepted the theory that
natural selection was one of the causes of the biological evolution. Herbert
Spencer’s philosophy tells that the evolution of every species was naturally
made or change by its own environment, because the habitats or a certain
species adjust according to the changes of the world and so as the species
itself, so do as the mankind but the difference is that the evolution of
mankind was because of the consciousness of a certain individual for the sake
of their own species the consciousness of the homo sapiens made their own
evolution not by natural selection but by their own willingness to live and the
consciousness of the Homo sapiens that made them to evolve into what we called
mankind or human.
Humans
continuously increases its consciousness and that consciousness increased
beyond its limit and it became intelligence wherein the most successful species
that evolved with consciousness was the Homo sapiens, the philosophy of Spencer
really points out that no species will evolve if its own habitat is not
changing, hence these evolution of every species occurs by time until now there
are species that is still evolving even humans is still in progress of evolving
in its final state, therefore evolution never stops until the changes in its
own habitat stops, however there are some species that only evolved once and
didn’t evolved again and didn’t adjust to the environment or habitat they are
living in, it means that the capacity of sustaining itself is undeniably
incredible, evolution in every species is necessary because if they don’t
evolve the possibility of extinction of their own species will increase to the
point that it will reach the number of 0 species left on that certain species,
dinosaurs isn’t yet extinct because they evolve into smaller reptile one to
adjust to the new habitat they’re living now.
Therefore, I conclude that no evolution will
occur if there is no external force that will affect their species to change,
the evolution changes the anatomy of a certain species that will suit the new environment
they are dealing, Spencer's philosophy was truly amazing, he analyzed how and
why we evolved using his philosophy, this philosophy analyses the true meaning
of a certain matter to the world or what it should be in the world or what is
the necessary meaning of Certain thing to our world, he actually analyzed and proposed that evolution naturally occurs when it is necessary for the
sake of their own species to live according to the new habitat they are living
in.

ReplyDeleteIn your second paragraph, it states, "Spencer thought that evolution was caused by the Inheritance of Acquired Characteristics," and suddenly, talks about Natural Selection. Does this mean that Spencer believes both of the theory about Natural Selection by Charles Darwin and Inheritance of Acquired Characteristics by John Baptiste Lamarck?
ReplyDeleteSpencer first used the phrase natural selection before Charles Darwin and Alfred Russel Wallace, Spencer accepted the perspective of Charles Darwin and Alfred Russel Wallace about the theory of natural selection.
DeleteThe Inheritance of Acquired Characteristics is just another chapter of natural selection, when natural selection occur Inheritance of Acquired Characteristics will come, therefore when a certain species was affected by the natural selection it will pass its inheritance to another so that the evolution of that species will continue, that's why Spencer accepted the Inheritance of acquired characteristics by John Baptiste Lamarck.
